AN 4.12, KN Iti 111, walking in jhāna

KN Iti 111 is exactly the same as AN 4.12, except this one line of verse and 2 lines of “this I heard from arhanat”:

:diamonds: “evaṃ vihārim-ātāpiṃ,
thus dwelling-ardently,
Santa-vuttimanuddhataṃ.
(at) peace-not-restless
which follows: khandhānaṃ udayabbayaṃ.

the word jhāna not used here explicitly (but is in AN 3.63). Here, you have to put 2 + 2 together. When you have 5 hindrances removed, check, samadhi, check, ekagga, check, sati, check, and the clincher is kaya-passdhi (bodily tranquility). It’s possible to have 2nd through fourth jhana quality of samadhi without being one of the four jhanas if the body isn’t relaxed or calm enough for piti-sukha juice to pump through your veins. But if you got passadhi, then sukha follows that awakening factor like a shadow in the 7sb (see SN 46.2, SN 46.3).

To believe that the walking described in this sutta is not the four jhānas, at the least the first 3 jhānas, would be like someone who happened to catch clark kent wearing a 3 piece suit, glasses, and flying through the air and saying, “that’s not superman, superman wouldn’t wear glasses, he wears red and blue tights with an “S” on his chest.”

Notes

almost exactly the same sutta as KN Iti 111
(to help fill out ellided 5 hindrances)
AN 3.58
“katamāni pañcaṅgāni pahīnāni honti?

Yeah you did that one already, in that thread. Is this one really worth it? More jhana malarkey?
