An Index of Poetry in the the 4 principle prose collections

An Index of Poetry in the the 4 principle prose collections.

I have been looking for and not finding an index of all the suttas that contain poetry in the 4 principle prose collections (DN, MN, SN and AN). So I thought I would kick off a wiki page so there is somewhere we can go to quickly find the poems.

So, below are the sutta links to suttas containing verses outside of the “usual suspects” aka the “dirty dozen”: Sagathavaggasamyutta, Dhammapada, Udana, Itivutakka, Uragavagga, Culavagga, Mahavagga, Atthakavagga, Parayanavagga, Theragatha, Therigatha and Jataka.

Obviously it would be nice to have a list of Agama suttas with verses too.

Notes

Please feel free to add anything I’ve missed, add actual section links, add more parallels, really add anything you like, I would love to see this evolve into a single page resource that really supercharges anyone’s research into the poetry of the 4 principle prose collections

Other resources:

The single best resource for getting familiar with the poetry, metre, prosody and all that of the Pali tradition is undoubtebly:

https://ancient-buddhist-texts.net/

An excellent colleciton of resources incluing the giants of the field in western scholarship KR Norman and AK Warder:

Ans a fantastically useful machine aid to identifying metre in Sanskrit and Prakrits (like Pali):
