Any political influenced suttas in Tripitaka?

Were any of the Buddha’s teachings changed after the fact in order to serve a political purpose? I’m especially interested in knowing if teachings concerning magic and supernatural powers, healing, etc. show any signs of later political influence?

One of the criticisms directed to EBT followers is, the lack of confident base (trusted fixed set of books) to stand upon.
I don’t know how to solve it yet.
