Buddha : I did not leave the household life because?

I bow to Sangha with my head in the feet of the Sangha … Great Masters, please remind me of the Sutta in which Bhagwa says, “I did not leave the household life because my wife and children were not dear to me; rather, I left because liberation was dearer to me.” Rajeev Dagla

It’s not totally the exact phrasing but maybe you have a mixed memory from:

Vessantaracariya Cp9

and Vessantarajātaka Ja547

and Vessantarapañha from The Questions of King Milinda Mil 6.3.1

The verse is as follow:

Na me dessā ubho puttā,

maddidevī na dessiyā;

Sabbaññutaṁ piyaṁ mayhaṁ,

tasmā piye adāsahaṁ.

I had no dislike of my children,

nor for Queen Maddī.

But because omniscience is precious to me,

I gave my loved ones away.

Also maybe a bit of mixing with AN3.40 and MN26 too.

Thanks a lot, for your clarity on the topic !! :folded_hands:
