I built a small Android and iOS app called Sutta Companion completely free and adfree and wanted to share it here since SuttaCentral db is literally what is used to make it .
All the sutta content is used from the SuttaCentral GitHub repo db. For translations I went with Bhikkhu Sujato as the primary, and fall back to Bhikkhu Bodhi where his translation isn’t available. To keep the app size small I’m only bundling English for now.
There’s also a TTS feature if you prefer listening, adding sutta to read later , adding to favourite, and a small practice tracker for Sila and Sati and Akushala that I built for my own daily use.
Would love feedback, especially from people who use SuttaCentral regularly. And genuinely — thank you to everyone who has contributed to SC. This wouldn’t exist without that work.
Somebody asked me on reddit to post here so I am posting here. Thanks.
Terrific app! I wrote a review for the Android version. If it had a meditation timer and tracker and paritta chantings with karaoke it would be even more awesome!
Also, the suttas are organized in a scatter way, I think. Using the organization from SuttaCentral would be good. The search bar could include some filters of the collections to limit the search.
Hi friends I have released new update of this app – This update introduces the badge module to keep users engaged in dhamma although it is in beta since I am a single dev please mail me if you found any issue in this beta and a new dark mode for a more comfortable reading experience. I have also completed the remaining elements for gradual training within the practice module to better support your journey. To help you stay consistent, we added notifications for the sutta of the day and daily practice log reminders.
The logging feature didn’t work for me until I cleared app data, if others have the issue you can tell them the same.
My one wish for the app would also be better organization in the browsing section. The search feature is robust but actual browsing is painful, especially (obviously) in AN and KN.
There seems to be a minor bug wrt Sutta of the day. Today’s (06/05/2026) sutta seems to be from THA.. but on opening the notification nothing shows up.. possibly because THA is not included in the app?
Thanks for review faujidoc1 !!! will fix the order issue and notes and highlight feature can be a good feature addition , I think for THA for that particular sutta English translation may not be available , if you switch the language then you will be able to see the pali-version, going forward I will try to add logic to send sutta of day which have english translation as well, thanks for mentioning this .
Please tell me what issue you faced when you tried logging and please put some more light on browsing is painful, especially (obviously) in AN and KN. Thanks for review!!!
It would not let me save my logging preferences until I cleared the app data.
As far as organization goes, fixing the sutta numerical orders as stated by another commenter above, as well as adding browsing subdivisions for the different books of AN and KN. (Perhaps also SN, less important for DN and MN as they are not really organized topically. )
Font size scaling. Allow the user to increase or decrease the size of the font.
Remember language preference. As it is now, the language is EN every time a sutta is opened. It would be nice to choose a default preference in the settings, e.g. it opens in EN+Pali instead.
Get rid of the duplicate numbers in EN+Pali. As it is, the numbers of the suttas are duplicated when the suttas appear as a group in EN+Pali, e.g. in AN 1.1-10.
