I appreciate this translation and discussion very much. The phrase, “Have you no shame?” came to mind. That question conveys in my mind the idea that a sense of shame would prevent misdeeds. I looked it up online and the phase, “Have you left no sense of decency?” came up. That is a famous quotation from Joseph N. Welch, attorney for the U.S. Army, who asked that question to Congressman Joe McCarthy during the Army-McCarthy hearings in 1954. From what I read online, Welch’s response to McCarthy and particularly this question, led to the end of McCarthy’s hearings which were a “witchhunt” against Communists.
