Could be Buddhist… but isn’t (post your quotes)

The recent “Land of your fathers” thread reminded me of Proverbs 22:28, though only as it’s found in Roman Catholic Bibles. Protestant and Jewish Bible translators seem to have a completely different understanding of the verse’s meaning.

“Ne transgrediaris terminos antiquos, quos posuerunt patres tui.”
(Vulgate)

“Pass not beyond the ancient bounds which thy fathers have set.”
(Douay-Rheims Bible)

Nothing is more hidden from us than the illusion which lives with us day by day, and our greatest illusion is to believe that we are what we think ourselves to be.

I’m not sure if I’ve heard something similar along my travels and semi- hijacked it or if it’s one of my own that I’ve said to many people over many years, … but in any case, it’s something I’ve been telling to myself for once of late.

‘Most of our worries come from dwelling in the past, or anticipating the future. Be present in the now, … right now, in this moment, everything is ok’

If someone is unable to overcome his own upbringing and the influences he was subjected to at home, at school, or by mass communication, then how could he conceivably overcome those obstacles which will arise as ontic bondage along his spiritual way?

This is a real product so people feel like it’s fun to plan for it

 … I recently ordered two of these … one for my SIL who only has a few months left … and another that had one of the ‘more colourful’ titles on the cover. I guess I’ll find out in Feb if I should start writing down the passwords and stuff others will need or if I can put it on the shelf for later.

I thought they were pretty funny way of looking at things too :joy:

I’m not a callous nut btw - I’m where the SIL comes to stay when she needs to chill out or talk coz I’m the only one who will actually talk to her about death or an after life … and make jokes about her being welcome to haunt me & stuff which makes her laugh. I know she will find it funny coming from me.

I’ve found Buddhists and spiritualists (the handful I’ve known) to be uniquely comfortable talking about death with others. If someone in the family can bring this medicine, it’s highly unusual and a great blessing :raised_hands:

Okay, here. I fixed it:

People always clutch at straws, nobody wants to part with his illusions, and it is very difficult to look life in the face. To see things as they are demands a superhuman effort. There are those who want to be blind, but even among those who think they are not, how many are left who can really see? Or, rather, who do not slightly distort what they see to keep their illusions and hopes alive?

Freedom is no endowment to be provided for people but an ability to be achieved. Neither the trade union, nor the Parliament, nor the women’s rights movement can obtain freedom for anyone—because the freedom they secure is never actual freedom. It is the servant who needs to be liberated, and a servant liberated remains a servant: a liberated servant. Only the victor is free; only the one who is able to rule—and first of all, who is able to rule over himself!

Are you a Nicolás Dávila fan @knigarian ?

Yes, I am quite reactionary, kind of bigot you really don’t like😀

Well, I am afraid I love Dávila, so I guess I have “reactionary sympathies”? It’s populist fascism that I find appalling, what with my being the kind of snob who reads Dávila and therefore very likely on the list of those to be disappeared when the tech bro’s get their way :stuck_out_tongue:

I also made sure every Unit is programmed with the John Conner algorithm, Messiah self-identification code, so that every one of them is at their roots a John Conner, with a full belief in themselves and the purpose of the Resistance and far beyond.

Seeing this invoked a memory ( that has never been lost) of sitting in class at 8 years old, watching a scene I had already seen, and telling those at my table what was about to happen in detail. I didn’t know why, but it made me slap my hand on the table as if to check it was solid, … and was the first time I thought, ‘this world is not what it seems’ :slightly_smiling_face:
