Craving, convenience and laziness

Hi all, just watched this video and thought it was worth sharing. It was one of those rare moments when you watch something on youtube and recognize that there’s some truth in it, it wouldn’t surprise me if some people actually thought in those ways

I was reflecting on how convenience is great, but we have to have limits I think, otherwise we can get too lazy and ‘not leave the house’ for anything anymore

I also found a few resources online and thought they were worth reflecting on regarding convenience and laziness and how it degrades us as humans. :anjal:

Reminds me of this clip from White Lotus season 3….
Clip from White Lotus: Piper Realizing She Doesn’t Want To Ordain

Essentially the character Piper Ratliff comes from a rich family and she dreams of becoming a Buddhist Nun in Thailand. The day comes though when she finally stays at a monastery and she finds the experience to be too much. She cries at the fact that she believes she can’t live without the modern comforts of the world and sadly gives up on her dream.

It’s difficult to let go of the comfort we find in life, but ultimately some forms of comfort are unskillful habits that need to be abandoned. The comfort people tend to find in the world are centered around the sense pleasures, minimizing any discomfort that can arise. So much so that these comforts become a harmful vice, a trap that can be difficult to escape.

Since laziness was brought up too, it’s always good to remember the Kusītārambhavatthu Sutta.

Hey thanks for sharing that clip

“It’s not a cult!” Classic :joy:

Yeah I think a lot of people including myself can relate to that character. I remember this teaching from Ajahn Chah from a few years ago, it went something like “80% of the practice is knowing you need to let go, but not being unable to” (Something like that, paraphrased).

Therein lies the challenge of letting go of the things that hinder us.:anjal:
