The more time passes, the more the Buddha’s relics seem to multiply…

There is a documentary called “Bones of the Buddha” which describes cremated remains found in the actual place, manner, and method that is described in the Suttas. They were discovered by British archaeologists some years ago and the remains were gifted to Thailand a while ago. Obviously relics were spread out to other places, and there are many fakes. After seeing that documentary it had me thinking that it was, relatively speaking some significant historical/scientific verification that the Suttas held true to a historical events.

I did watch this documentary, and I must say it’s quite convincing, to my non-expert layman’s eyes. It’s actually the only relics discovery I’m inclined to accept as being authentic, but obviously I’m willing to change my mind if evidence is presented to the contrary.

Here is the video:

And here is the website featuring some of the Piprahwa Jewels collected from the stupa:

By the way, does anyone know what the king of Thailand did with the Buddha’s bones? Are they still in Thailand?

Some of the facts explored by this documentary are indeed very interesting… but the documentary itself is of poor quality in my opinion. I guess there are so few documentaries about Early Buddhism that we cannot be picky…!

They were enshrined. They should be at Wat Saket in Bangkok.

Items that genuinely claim to be relics. Tee hee.

That must be a very old pun.
