It depends on the service you’ve used specifically:
- If it is a cloud service, then it depends on its Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for what it can do with the text you’ve uploaded
- For example, SC Voice uses a highly cached version of Amazon Polly, which states: “Amazon Polly does not retain the content of your text submissions.”
- If it is on-device and does not leave the device, then the data is not used either
- For example, the SC Voice iOS App uses Apple’s on-device TTS models via the
AVSpeechSynthesizerinterface, which follows Apple’s strong privacy protection
- For example, the SC Voice iOS App uses Apple’s on-device TTS models via the
I agree that it’s not as specific as could be, partly because the definition of “AI” can be quite broad.
SC Voice, as I understand, is partly exempted as it uses “AI” for accessibility purposes[1].
I may be mistaken, but I believe the variant of Algolia that the instant search uses is DocSearch, which predates the advent of LLMs.
