Did Buddha say anything about promiscuity?

Then what are you talking about? Buddhism has three trainings and the precepts are part of the moral training, which is called ‘sila’ in Pali.

The EBTs do not appear to teach like this. In the EBTs, ‘animal behaviour’ seems unwholesome.

Bhikkhus, a god, a human or any other good state would not be evident from actions born of greed, hate and delusion. Yet, bhikkhus, from actions born of greed, hate and delusion a hellish being, an animal birth a ghostly birth or some other bad state would be evident. AN 6.39

Where as all sex is not unwholesome in the EBTs, such as between husband & wife in a loving-relationship, as described in AN 4.55.

Husband & wife, both of them
having conviction,
being responsive,
being restrained,
living by the Dhamma,
addressing each other
with loving words:
they benefit in manifold ways.
To them comes bliss.
Their enemies are dejected
when both are in tune in virtue.
Having followed the Dhamma here in this world,
both in tune in precepts & practices,
they delight in the world of the devas,
enjoying the pleasures they desire.:heart_eyes:

Then why monks are not allowed to have sex?

In the EBTs, the word ‘wholesome’ appears to sometimes refer to transcendent (lokuttara) practice. However, generally, the word ‘wholesome’ refers to mundane or worldly morality. Therefore:

  1. Immorality is unwholesome & leads to hell.

  2. Morality, such for laypeople, is wholesome & leads to heaven.

  3. Transcendence (lokuttara) is for monks & leads to Nibbana.

I think this is the standard understanding of Buddhism.

OK. Over & out for me, here. :frog:

Thanks.
Some good foods for thoughts.
:anjal:

What exactly is a ‘harem’? Did women exist in harems against their will, such as sex-slaves captured in war?

This is one of the biggest problems when it comes to sex workers too.

Can we say kamma is not :
If not right then is wrong ,
If not white then is black ,
If not A then is B ,
If not 1 then is 2 ,
Kamma ripening depends on
many terms and conditions .
And also present life determination .
Such as by being a Muslim can
take 4 wife and that is by birth
or religion , ie a kind of kamma ,
but , choose to marry with 1 wife !
That’s goes for a king also .

Of course , as a buddhist , even
if the Buddha does not state
anything such as gambling as
A Precept , or the law permit
us to gamble and the country
having Legal prostitution
system , we still choose
not to engage in it .

For those whom are raging
with hormones , unable to
regulate it , we feel helpless
and not much can be done .

Unfortunately, the slavery is still well and alive in many countries including Sri Lanka.
This is a documentary about child slavery in Cocoa plantations.

In Canada, only last year, a farmer finally got caught after keeping a number of migrant workers on his farm for a number of years, “paying” them only in food and lodgings (i.e. slavery).

interesting read, somewhat off-topic though.

Actually not.
This practice now copied by Sri Lankans.
Child slave labor in Sri Lankan homes is quite common.
Not only people are not ashamed about it but they boast about their servants.

These five trades ought not to be practiced by a layperson. What five? Trade in weapons, trade in human beings, trade in flesh, trade in alcohol, and trade in poisons.

Vaṇijjā, Aṅguttara Nikāya 5.177

Does trade in human beings
be consider including slavery
and pornographic or
prostitution ?
