The Dharmaguptaka Bhikkhunī vinaya can now be found here:
This is the vinaya that the Mahayana sangha, and many of the Tibetan bhikkhunīs keep. It’s also the vinaya closest to the Pali version.
As always, many thanks go to two anonymous Bhikshunis from a Taiwanese tradition who helped me resolve some tricky passages, and to my tech deva @Aminah who created the website!
At the time of posting, you can find the Dharmaguptaka Bhikkhunī vibhaṅga and pātimokkha on the website. The Bhikkhunī khandhaka has also been proofread and will hopefully appear there at some point.
I’ll now start proofreading the Mahīśāsaka texts. If all goes well, they should be online by May 2025.
Yay! Well done! Another milestone for Vinaya students!
This is such important work. If you didn’t do this, I am not sure it would ever get done. This is a marvellous service to Buddhism, and especially to bhikkhunīs!
Hello, it seems that the transaction statement for the nuns’ ordination doesn’t quite correspond to the Pali. specifically it looks to be missing a parallel to ekatoupasampannā bhikkhunisaṅghe. Is this an oversight in the translation or a genuine discrepancy?
