Its in SN, it is about a false monk sent by his cohrt to learn the buddhist dhamma and profit from it cynically, he is suprised the monks cant recall thier past lives (the SA source says they cant even attain jhana) but they respond saying they are liberated by wisdom.

Ah that’s quite interesting. I checked the parallel but with the machine translation it is a bit difficult to get the exact sense of what is being said. Would you think the Chinese parallel has added that particular part?

I thinknthey are the same part, in the sense that they both refer to dufferent bits of the sekkha patipada but its the same tradition
