Sorry to wake up this old post, but lots has changed since this conversation.
The built in search on SuttaCentral has gotten much, much better, especially with citations. So please do give it a try.
As well, we now have the browser extension that gives you the ability to type in a citation and go to a sutta.
And we now have the (external) Comprehensive Index of Pali Suttas if you don’t know the sutta but you know the topic.
