According to Kamma theory, we do not die.
That is the problem.
If there is no birth after this life, our problem is solved.
Life forms can “choose” quasi-immortality or complexity it seems, no one seems to get both.
Viruses are also immortal, much less ambiguously so, but they are only controversially “alive”. They also lack the complexity of “mortal” life. Furthermore, viruses and hydras are only immortal inasmuch as they “won’t die” if left alone in good conditions. They can still be killed.

Whoever has developed, Ānanda, made much of, carried on, established, maintained, augmented, and properly instigated the Four Paths to Power, could, if he wanted, Ānanda, remain for the lifespan or for what is left of the lifespan. The Realised One has developed, Ānanda, made much of, carried on, established, maintained, augmented, and properly instigated the Four Paths to Power. If he wanted, Ānanda, the Realised One could remain for the lifespan or for what is left of the lifespan.”
