A good idea that was inspired by the Kumbh Mela, but within the framework of Buddhism:
To organize a long retreat (49 days) in sacred Buddhist sites. The idea is inspired by the seven weeks that the Buddha spent after his Enlightenment.
The essence is to conduct practices near the sacred rivers:
- In Lumbini near the Telar River
- In Bodhgaya near Nairanjana (Falgu) River, which also flows near Dungeshwari Cave
- In Sarnath at the confluence of Ganges and Varuna
- In Kushinagar near the Hiranawati and Kakuttha Rivers
Each week could be dedicated to different traditions and methods of practice. We could also organize traditional immersions in these sacred rivers for Buddhism. Set up tent camps.
Such a retreat could be held every 3 years, rotating locations. This retreat would promote Buddhist unity. And at the same time, it would attract local people to Buddhist teachings and practices.
