Is Protestant Buddhism halfway to Secular Buddhism?
The modern Vipassina movements can be viewed as Protestant Buddhism in the wake of and under influence of the religious prejudices of British Colonialism… and so can be viewed as a Step towards Post-Tradional Buddhism. And a step towards Secular Buddhism. Right?
Yeah, I think that’s fair enough. For example, Buddhadasa Bhikkhu was a “Protestant Buddhist” (or something like it) but wouldn’t count as a “Secular Buddhist” (to me).
I didn’t know that term existed - I only have heard of Buddhist modernism. There is no separate Wiki entry but I found it under Anagarika Dharmapala - so I guess that is what’s being referred - so I guess they overlap (?)
It’s not clear to me if the strands of Buddhism headed under Protestant or Buddhist Modernism self-identify under this heading or if this is an ascription from outside?
