Is there a history of Buddhist activism?

I just have to believe there is a history of Buddhist peaceful resistance and activism and a literature to go with it, but I I’m just not familiar with it. in light of the next 4 years it seems that those who are familiar with it might share it to pass it on.

Forgive me if the recommendation is too obvious. Definitely check out among Tich Nhat Hahn’s, books. He started by helping to / organizing to rebuild villages that were destroyed during Vietnam War. That’s where the whole engaged Buddhism idea came from.
Many of the plum village practicioners work in some kind of environmental and or social activism field and report on doing so. You can check out their podcasts, for example.
