Basically,
this.
If I have to do it in GitHub I will, as long as I don’t have to download the entire repo.
Well this method is relatively easy, since all notes are in the comment directory of bilara-data: https://github.com/search?q=repo%3Asuttacentral%2Fbilara-data+path%3A%2F^comment\%2F%2F&type=code
You can query on top of that
Not sure if there is a way to do it within SC’s own search though
It is smaller if you don’t download the full history, e.g. a shallow clone with git clone --depth=5
I think this web tool might also help:
If my memory is correct, notes weren’t a big thing when the search rebuild started. It’s something that did come up and I think it might be a good feature. It should probably also be able to not search in the notes (if notes are currently being searched at all… I’d need to check that).
Indeed, that would be nice!
Thanks folks.
I was trying to not make this a feature request…but…
Are you trying to search Bhante Sujato 's notes?
The eventual solution here is for him to publish all of that original research as a proper book, no?
Yes. I don’t want to have to ask him to go over something he’s explained to me already when I think it’s in a note.
don’t give him ideas ![]()
I think the stuff linking the earlier traditions to the Buddha’s teaching would make a great book. Not all the notes fall into this category though.
I agree, I think it’d be a good feature, I’ll discuss it with Hongda.
