  2. Study the grammatical material in G&K Lesson 6 (pp.83-90)
  3. Study the vocabulary for the first set of readings in Lesson 6 (pp.79-82)
  4. Complete the first set readings from Lesson 6 (pp.77-79).

Please note that due to my travel schedule there will be no Pāli Beginners class on 20/21 July.

So, after this session on 6/7 July, following session will be four weeks later on 3/4 August.

John, I think this version of snp3.7 might come from Sri-Lankan edition of PC. For example this version is in the book of Sutta-Nipata by Robert Chalmers, which, I think, is based on PTS edition, which in turn might have this version from Sri-Lanka.

Yes, Tim. I looked this up after class this morning and the version I originally had in my Word doc “Addasā kho selo brāhmaṇo keṇiyassa jaṭilassa assame appekacce …”, came from Sutta Central which is based on the Burmese edition of the Pāli text.

However, the version “Addasā kho Selo brāhmaṇo keṇiyassamiye jaṭile appekacce …” is what is in the PTS English edition of the Pāli text, and this edition of the text was based primarily on the Sri Lankan texts. G&K obviously used this edition as well.

The first version basically says “Sela the brahman saw some in the ashram of Keṇiya, the mattted-hair ascetic …”, whereas the second version says “Sela the brahman saw some mattted-hair ascetics belonging to the ashram of Keṇiya …”. Essentially the same.

Thanks for pointing it out in class, Tim. Even though I have taught Pāli using G&K before, no-one else has either noticed the difference or pointed it out to me before. That document with both the Pāli of the exercises and my translations was created by me around 20 years ago in 2005!
