Some of you may be aware, but others may not, that my home city of Brisbane is sitting directly in the path of a category 2 cyclone which is due to make landfall in the next 15 hours or so and everybody is hunkering down and hoping for the best. Already power outages are occurring in coastal parts, and we may well lose power here too.

Our next session is scheduled for a little less than 72 hours from now, and if we do lose power tonight or tomorrow, I sure hope we are not still without it then. I’m planning for our Pāli reading group session to go ahead as normal, but if I don’t have power and wifi available then obviously it won’t happen. So just warning you all in case you end up trying to connect to Zoom and can’t do so.

We are very aware of your predicament John. Wishing you and all those affected by Tropical Cyclone Alfred a safe time. Hugo and Alison

I have been thinking about you when I saw the news. I hope the effect of the cyclone won’t be too dear. May you be safe!

Well tropical cyclone Alfred has now rolled through and been downgraded to a tropical low, but is still causing massive amounts of rain over a wide area. Just in my local area we’ve had over 330mm (that’s over 12 inches for you old-fashioned US folks) in the last 36 hours!

Fortunately, unlike many people around me, we have not lost power nor are we affected much by the widespread flooding. Class will go on as normal.

@johnk So glad you are well, and safe, and have power! I am unfortunately in a low cell signal area and can’t connect for class, so will practice and follow along with the recording for today’s lesson. Grateful to you all!

Oh, and I should mention, since the US (and Canada?) has recently moved to DST, class will start an hour later for you than previously.
