In her talk she gave a story about the Buddha being given a banquet by a rich man. A beggar woman was happy to see it. The rich man asked who the merit of the giving of the banquet would go to. He answers that it would go to the beggar woman. I don’t recall this one so maybe someone can find a source?
Could it be this one? https://www.dharmawheel.net/viewtopic.php?t=42550
That does sound very close, yes thanks. Makes sense that it may be in the Kangyur or Tangyur rather than the Pali. Jetsunma’s story had the woman just be happy at the rich man’s generosity rather than making any offering herself, still, it amounts to the same thing kinda. Thanks again ![]()
Well, it wouldn’t be in the Pali canon, but in the Mahayana one. I’m glad I might’ve helped! ![]()
In Sri Lankan Buddhism there is the tradition of passing the offering around the room before offering it to the sangha. The idea is that everyone who touches it and rejoices receives the merit of that offering.
Luckily merit isn’t a pie to be divided up, but an overflowing spring for all who rejoice and feel happy.
