Looking for an essay/ board members - city council

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for an essay or maybe it was a passage in an essay. It talked about how we as individuals are ‘many’ like in a board of members. Some of the members are friendly and care for the well-being, others were corrupt and only interested in their own gain. I think the simile was about a city council. I can’t seem to find it though I’m sure it’s by Ven. Thanissaro. If anybody knows what I’m talking about and can refer me to the passage/the text - I’d be grateful!

It sounds like it’s from Thanissaro Bhikkhu, yeah.

He uses the concept of a committee in several of his talks and writings, you might find the one you’re looking for through this search query on Dhammatalks.

Ahh it was a commitee! I somehow got stuck on the word council and when I looked for it, I only got results for the Buddhist councils. I didn’t know he uses this simile so extensively.
Thank you Viktoria - there are plenty of references in the link you provided! :sunny: :cherry_blossom: :hibiscus:
