Sadly, despite being classified as “ environmentally friendly “, irrigation projects can be a bane to the local wildlife. Not to mention local villages and viable farmland.
This attempt to rescue a tiger was made under similar circumstances with a rope ladder.
I also remember seeing somewhere in India, a man lowering himself into a well to rescue a tranquilized, full grown tiger
