Silly question, I’m assuming “comm” when using the pali lookup tool means possibly ‘commentary/ries’? Would this be right?
Yes. The commentaries were written nearly a thousand years after the suttas, so some words changed in meaning a bit over that time! Since the DPD is trying to be a general Pāli dictionary, it has to give both definitions because it doesn’t know that you’re reading an early text. If SuttaCentral wanted, we could perhaps automatically filter out these commentarial definitions? But it’s probably still helpful to have them so you know how the later tradition interpreted the term.

I was reading a translation of MN 118 when I went to my first (and only) Goenka retreat many years ago now and I remember reading parimukha translated as ‘tip of the nose’ and was thinking ‘that seems very specific!’
Anyway, mystery solved
