Very interesting.
Perhaps this is how religions started.
People first start honoring wholesome actions then they build a whole mass of rituals around it.

In Mahayana Buddhism, it’s ultimately understood that all celestial buddhas and bodhisattvas are symbolic of wisdom and compassion, rather than literal beings.

We honor the buddhas and bodhisattvas to humble our ego-selves and to develop their meritous qualities within ourselves.

Rituals are not a bad thing. The problem is people forget the original message and the ritual take the presidency. Then they kill each other for the different practice of their rituals.
