It’s been a living hell over there for a couple of days. Our @cdpatton lives not so far away from the fire site AFAIK; I hope everything’s alright.
We are fine, ourselves. We live 20-30 miles away from the fires and the winds don’t reach such severe speeds in the middle of Los Angeles. It’s along the mountain sides where it was bad. Embers jumped from house to house, setting the rooves on fire. We’re not completely out of the woods, but the winds should return to normal in a couple more days.
I can’t imagine what it was like to be in Pacific Palisades or Altadena. The majority of houses in those cities has burned. Thankfully, the evacuations happened quickly enough to avoid a great loss of life. For us, we had ash falling like snow flakes and a smell like car exhaust in the air – all those plastics and other synthetics that were incinerated were on the wind.
