A monastic friend of mine just sent me the Metta Sutta in Urdu (no copyright) and asked me to help get it to SuttaCentral.
Would SC be interested? Who is in charge of legacy translations?

But if it’s just the mettasutta and nothing else, it wouldn’t be too hard to make it a Bilara text. (We recently did that with the same sutta in Zürirdütsch. 
)

I agree with Ven. Sabbamitta that if there is no copyright then we might as well put it into Bilara.
For that we need @carmi 's help.

Das Mettasutta gibt es natürlich auch auf Deutsch und sogar auf Saarländisch!
Yes, sure, when Bhante @sujato agrees and @carmi sets up a project for me (Carmi please note that the mettasutta is twice in the canon, once at Kp9 and once at Snp1.8).

Urdu and Hindi are pretty much the same language (and both are widely-known to be native to the same region of India i.e. western Uttar-Pradesh). Hindi uses an Indian script (for writing) while Urdu uses the arabic script. There are some vocabulary differenes as well, Urdu uses more Farsi loanwords (i.e. Persian vocab) than Hindi. But still not different enough.

SC quite often has several translations of a text in the same language. For example, as Ven. @Sabbamitta mentioned, we have the Metta Sutta in several German dialects. So I’m assuming that this wouldn’t be a problem.

It seems we do need @HongDa 's help as well. Urdu doesn’t exist as language on SC so far, so it still needs to be added (ISO code is ur). And please note that the script is written from right to left—I’ve never worked with such a language so far, but Bilara should be able to handle this.
We also need a translator name. Can you please provide it, Ven. @vimalanyani ? It can be a pseudomym, if they want to remain anonymous for some reason, but we do need something.

We need to double check with a native speaker to be sure to get the language name correct as it appears on the site. We have made mistakes in the past with this.

I thought I sent you the translator‘s name yesterday in the DM but apparently I didn’t. It’s Nigath.
My monastic friend has contacted the translator to ask about AI.

No no! We really need a checklist for accepting translations. And this ought to be the first question.
Perhaps the translator could re-translate it? It’s not so long. We would love to have one. Or perhaps they could start fresh with the Mangala?

In that case I’d propose they get directly set up with Bilara so there will be no need to import the translation later. I realized that it wouldn’t be as easy for me as the Züridütsch one, as I can’t read the script and can’t see what belongs to which line. So it would be much better done by the native speaker themselves.
