@sujato Thank you Bhante. When you write ‘cut off from the senses’, is this equivalent to ‘withdrawn from sensuality’? Katamo ca bhikkhave, sammāsamādhi: idha bhikkhave, bhikkhu vivicceva kāmehi vivicca akusalehi dhammehi savitakkaṃ savicāraṃ vivekajaṃ pītisukhaṃ paṭhamaṃ jhānaṃ upasampajja viharati. Indeed yes. Kamehi here is plural, i.e. the senses, rather than desire for the senses, which is singular.
