RV 10.136 describes “muni’s” with long matted hair, wearing red-brown, tawny, bay, or “yellowish” rag robes who wander like the winds and perceive more than merely earthly forms.
They appear to achieve this state by some kind of poisoning?
The use of “muni” in RV is rare and late.
The “muni” of the athakkavagga seems a very different beast.
But perhaps that is because of our own Buddhist cultural baggage.
