My view on the "epidemic of views"

I’m new to studying the suttas, but one thing that is screaming at me this early on is the handling of two issues…. Conceit and Views.

These two issues in particular seem to strike right at the heart of the modern internet centered life. We are bombarded by others views on social media and on virtually every news source. This creates a reflexive impulse in me that i can now locate as aversion/anger or clinging/attachment depending on my own bias.

I am now realizing how crucial it is to extricate my mind from this source of self perpetuating delusion. I’m attempting to digest others opinions in a new way but its incredibly challenging. Instead of reacting to others views I’m trying to watch my impulse one way or the other. Typically this leaves me simply not caring to comment and just moving on entirely from it.

I have noticed the same trend in these threads as well, where a topic devolves into the funhouse of view propagation and conceit. Although not on the level of full blown sh*t slinging like twitter, its still just as unproductive and contrary to the Buddha’s teachings.

ok, so having said that, my view on this  is that its more important than ever to follow the teachings on views and conceit. Our modern information age has driven these particular problems into hyper drive….like a run away freight train.

Indeed!

The medium is the message and our technology is so good at disseminating views (vāde) that it starts to become all that seems to exist!

But there is still a real world out there of roots of trees and abandoned huts, of in-breaths and out-breaths, of feelings and their cessation…
