Hello there. Ive only just connected up to this forum, although of course Ive been aware of Sutta Central itself for a long time, and and have referred to the Suttas through it many times. Body and brain are ageing ( seriously - 79 this year -) so I do tend to hold back a bit, but I value Bhante Sujatoās translations, and I really enjoy reading the Suttas, as Iām able to. Sometimes I will read the translation from here, as well as a translation of the same sutta, from Access to Insight( for example)- to get a really good feel for its meaning. Started walking the Buddhist path through the Mahayana route, but have widened my pathway now, and also love the Theravada. My teacher is the same in this regard- Mahayana in origins, with a much wider pathway now.
Youāll have things to work with either way for sure! Even neurotypicals have their stress and suffering!
Some psychiatric medications can make practice more difficult if for example youāre experiencing lethargy as a side effect of the drugs. Please do bring up such things with your medical team. A good psychiatrist will work with you to find a prescription that works for you. And if it aināt brokeā¦
In the end weāre all physical beings, dependant on nutriment. Some of us just need to consume more specific chemicals, thatās all. ![]()

Hi all. I am Mike. I have read posts on this forum many times and thankful for what it offers. I made an account a few days ago because I had a question. I have learned Theravada Buddhist theory and practice since 2001 when I was introduced to the teachings of Goenkaji (or his teacher) at a 10 day retreat of his. Since then, I have been lucky to have had many dhamma teachers, dhamma friends, dhamma books, I have learned from, and I am grateful to all of them. Still a dhamma infant, and looking forward to learning more. Thank you for this website.
Hi Mike, Welcome to the D&D forum! We hope that you find answers to all of your questions. The search function is quite helpful in leading you to many past discussions on a huge number of topics!
Hello all, my name is Matthew. Iām from Canada, and Iāve been actively practicing Buddhism for about a year now. I made an account here as Iāve had some difficulty finding a Sangha locally, and this website looks like it could offer some of that guidance. So far my readings and practice has focused on early Buddhist texts such as the Nikayas, but Iāve also read some later works. My initial introduction to Buddhism was about 20 years ago in high school religion class. At that time I did find it the most compelling framework for life Iād heard, but for reasons Iāve yet to understand, it never stuck. About a year ago, during a period of indifferent health, I was reflecting on the nature of suffering, and remembered the path I had been shown so many years ago. I decided to start walking it. Since that day I havenāt turned back. My life has completely changed over the last year in so many wonderful ways, and all I can do is be thankful. I hope to contribute some insight where I can, and benefit in the wisdom that others have to share.
Thanks.
new here, been working my way to the path for decades. ? Finally committed, mentally, I want to follow the path Buddha taught, Very interested in EBTā, Parallel texts. Buddhist Chaplaincy programs want to learn Pali, Does the site offer mentorships or guides?
There are self-guided courses over at the Open Buddhist University.
Welcome!
Hello all:)
I joined Sutta central a few days ago. Iāve only recently become interested in Buddhism after chancing across a quote from āthe heart of buddahā in a book I was reading. It lead me to become more curious, since I couldnāt seem to get the quote and itās ideas out of my head for many days, and I ended up here to search more. Iāve found much wisdom in the texts, however Iām still very unfamiliar with the religion itself as newcomer. But I aim to get better and learn more.
Looking forward to reading, sharing and learning with you all!
