Parallels: Udana

While going through the late 莊春江 translation of Udana, I noticed some parallel agama sutras not noted on SuttaCentral parallel information. So, here is the list:

  • Ud1.8
    • SA1072 Roughly the same.
    • EA35.10 The story is more elaborate in this sutra. Here, Ven was confronted by his Mother in Law as well as his former wife. He had a son and a daughter.
  • Ud2.2 - SA413 Monks gossiped about King Pasenadi and King Bimbisara, but was interrupted by the Buddha. The difference between sutra and Udana is that the Buddha proceeded to talk about 4 Noble Truths because it’s of great benefit. In Udana, the Buddha asked them to keep noble silence or discuss about Dhamma.
  • Ud3.2 - EA18.7 The story in this sutra is more elaborate. In addition to taking Ven Nanda to heaven to survey his heavenly reward of nymphs, the Buddha also took him down to an empty hell awaiting him.
  • Ud4.4
    • SA1330 Roughly the same
    • EA48.6 This sutra is very flowery and sounds like a Mahayana sutra.
  • Ud8.9 - SA1076 Roughly the same

Oh thanks, we’ll add these when we get the chance. Currently we don’t have a dedicated parallels-updater, if anyone would like to do it, let us know.

As far as posting the given lists to Git, I’ll be happy to give it a go. :slight_smile:

Well, great.

How we do it is, we have one big JSON file and the parallels are listed there. There are a few conventions to use for resembling parallels and so on. But it’s just a matter of getting those straight then editing the JSON file. It’s not super user-friendly, but not too hard either.
