I have added the proper license information but it would be nice to receive a double check and a “formal” acknowledgement from the community here. Of course, suggestions for improvements are open. The license at the bottom of the page is fairly clear. I think you are fine to go ahead.
If you didn’t use any AI tools to do the translation, then there would probably be interest in putting your translation on the site if you were open to that.
I have used AI but every definition has been reviewed by me. Heavy use was for merging, processing, checking correct referencing, formatting, unifying diacritics style etc
In that case it can’t be put on SC (despite human checking). But that doesn’t affect the license.
BTW, I would assume that SC’s source is A Glossary of Pali and Buddhist Terms on AccessToInsight.
Sounds right. If I understood correctly, SC contains additional terms on top of the ones from ATI?
Further, I personally request that none of SC’s material be used in any AI project in any way shape or form.
Bhante, I have done my best to fulfill your request, without having to do a complete rewrite of the entire thing. I have switched the main source to the original AccessToInsight definitions. Even so, some initial definitions were used from SuttaCentral in the process of translation, so those might still be there.
Thus, in the license part on our website, AccessToInsight is explicitly credited as a source. SuttaCentral is mentioned only as a source consulted during the translation and editorial process, but without author attribution, in line with the CC BY 4.0 mechanism allowing removal of attribution information when requested by the licensor (you), where reasonably practicable.
I hope this is as close to your request as possible, even though probably not “in any way shape or form” - please accept my apologies in this nuance. I will keep in mind your request in the future when using any SC material.
Your project is not an AI one. I believe Bhante’s prohibition is on using the SC material for training an AI large language model like ChateGPT. You are just translating.
That is correct, this is not an AI project of any kind. This is a static glossary. Which we (myself and another translator) have been maintaining using sheets since 2017. Finally, now with AI, I was able to compile everything together and quite easily also put it in a shape that Jekyll likes (the CMS we use on dhammadha.ro)
