Quoting multiple people in a reply

Sometimes we want to reply to several people in a thread. Instead of creating separate posts to reply to all of them, please just quote them in a single post.

Simply place your cursor in the post editor where you want to quote them, then scroll back up to the post you want to quote. There will be a popup after you select the text. Then click “Quote” and that selected text will be quoted in your new post.

Alternatively, you can mention the person by typing the @ symbol followed by their username. Please don’t overuse this “mention” feature.

When are people notified?

Assuming they have notifications enabled…

  • When you reply in a thread they created (if they still have it marked as “Watching”)
  • When you click reply to a specific message
  • When you quote someone
  • When you mention them using their user name
  • When they are “Watching” a thread you post in
  • When they are “Watching” a category that has a thread you post in

All this applies if they have enabled notifications. It’s possible to disable them.

Snowbird this is awesome. The screen recording brings it all together so nicely.

Perhaps a Watercooler post? Everyone who posts would benefit from this!

Yes, I’m thinking we should test out the category auto bumping feature. It might bring these out to people who need to see them.

Let’s do it! Don’t see a need for further discussion on doing it, right?
