Recluse Bodhi's translation of pali discourses now made FREE by the publishers

I have just found out that recluse Bodhi’s translations of pali discourses have been made virtually free web version and cheaper printed book by the publishers:

6. Free translation of some discourses by recluse Thanisssaro:

Years ago, Wisdom Publication did not make recluse Bodhi’s full translation of MN, SN, AN free, only some discourses for free members. But now the web version of those translations is finally free for free members. I have waited for this change for years. Furthermore, this version is not only original and official from the publisher, it is also updated, for example the version of MN is fourth edition (2009).

This is a wise move as it can help more people around the world access to a source of clues for SOLVING ‘DAILY LIFE ISSUES’ (e.g. self, health, job, wealth, family, friend, teacher, community) & ‘LIBERATION’ (from sufferings).

Massive thanks to all that make this change happen, especially Wisdom Publication.

The Wisdom Full translations sold by BPS at a discount are for sale exclusively in Asia. This is a decades old agreement between the two publishers to make the books available in low income countries.

Thanks for the info on the online versions from the Wisdom site. Even the indexes seem to be linked up.

By the way, I joined the Wisdom Publications site under the “free” account to see what it would give me access to. It did not give me free access to the ebook versions of Bhikkhu Bodhi’s work without payment. (In other words, it still sits behind a paywall.)

Happily, I can afford these and wouldn’t want to deprive publishers of the revenue they need to keep operating. So I assume laypeople-householders like me who have the means would continue to follow the normal paywall method to the extent possible. :folded_hands:

I should clarify that:

  • free members of Wisdom Publications can read online for free via the links in my original post. This web version is inside a box on the web page, looks like an ebook on the web. The link also reads “ebook”.

  • The offline ebook is still under sales.
