Requirements for the Sāmaṇerī Ordination

Hello Venerable Vinaya Experts! (Especially Ajahn @Brahmali and Ajahn @Dhammanando )

I’m looking for what the Pali Canon (and, I suppose, the commentaries) say about what’s required for giving the novice ordination to women.

The only thing I’ve found in a quick search through the Vinaya is this curious passage in Pvr 7:

A competent and capable nun who has ten years of seniority may give the going forth, the full ordination, and formal support, and may have a novice nun attend on her.
Dasavassāya bhikkhuniyā byattāya paṭibalāya pabbājetabbaṁ upasampādetabbaṁ nissayo dātabbo sāmaṇerī upaṭṭhāpetabbā.

I say “curious” because, as Ajahn’s note on this segment says, this would contradict Bi-Pc74 if Bhikkhuni ordination is meant by pabbājetabbaṁ upasampādetabbaṁ here. Also, the Vinaya (usually?) refers to Bhikkhuni ordinations by different terms like “upasampannā” or “vuṭṭhāpeti” Might the Novice ordinations be what is meant here?

Other than this passage, I can’t find where, specifically, the Vinaya discusses the sāmaṇerī ordination. Is this a case where the rules are implied to be copied over from the male side?

Any pointers appreciated, thanks! :folded_hands:

This is how I have learned it and I haven’t seen anything in the pali vinaya to contradict. There is so little bhikkhuni/samaneri specific material in the theravada tradition.
