I just had a look at it, I find the Buddhist dictionaries portal quite useful. It let me search for Buddhist terminology from various dictionaries in one page. It’s quite convenient for lookup. Albeit this doesn’t necessarily need to be done using AI. It’s just that I’m not aware of any project that presents results from multiple dictionaries, especially for classical Chinese.
Thanks, I’ve responded to them.
Good on them for having the politeness to ask.
Dear Bhante Sujato,
Thank you so much for your permission. After all, I decided to only change “mendicant” to “bhikkhu” and “immersion” to “concentration” for now (although I’ll admit “immersion” is a beautiful word that I can relate to 100% judging through the prism of my own experience in meditation). I want to continue updating the data with your on-going changes and doing more changes than that may complicate that process. But we’ll see about that as time goes on. I am humbled by your flexibility and felt a lot of mettā in your message. It inspired me.
I added the source as “SuttaCentral” (with a link to the exact commit on sc-data where it comes from) along with the text “modified” in parenthesis (along with a link the the actual modification code) on every single sutta page, as well as in the repository documentation.
I have a few more things to iron out and I will create a separate post with more details. I have however used Claude Code to write the code, but the app itself isn’t using any AI. I have read your requirements and license files carefully and I think (and hope) I haven’t broken any requirement. It’s actually just a simple sutta reader, nothing fancy pantsy ![]()
DELETED LINKS – I realized I have to spend some more time polishing the hosting of the app, since it is currently bound to a server in Belgium, and it is a bad first experience to anyone visiting from further away. I will be back with a full post.
With mettā,
G
Dear friends, after a lot of polishing and testing, I finally felt confident to share the app. I created a separate post for it:
