Split out corrections threads?

I’m thinking we should split out the corrections posts by translator, it’s obviously confusing having everything in one thread. What do you think?

So we’d have:

  • myself
  • Brahmali
  • John Kelly
  • Sabbamitta
  • etc.

And then another thread for general corrections, including site issues. Often the general corrections to blurbs, etc., can be done by anyone with edit privileges, they usually don’t require my attention. So this way it’d be clearer for translators, and hopefully facilitate quicker turnaround.

For myself, I have some other things to attend to, and then I’ll turn to annotations for AN. I’ll make a habit of reviewing the corrections after each number of AN, so it shouldn’t get out of hand again. Hopefully!

Can I suggest giving the threads more direct names? It’s easy to get distracted by the long titles. Lead with the name of the translator or “General typo reports”.

Shall we close the general bug thread in favor of individual threads?

And it’s true, it can get a bit confusing, as discussion on various bugs is not really separated.

Yeah, it’s been pinned in the Feedback category.

As long as there is only one bug discussion going on at a time, it’s not a disaster. Discussions can be split off, but it might be better to just have one bug in each topic.

Another thing to consider is having a Category Moderator. You can see here the powers that a CM would have. It’s more than TL3, but limited to the category they moderate. They don’t have general staff powers.

Using a Category moderator for the Feedback category could take a little burden off of the regular moderators and keep things tidy for our translators.

Oh right, yes. TBH I think it’d be better to have each bug report in a separate post. They can get complicated quickly, different people get involved, and it’s easy to have cross-chatter. But then, whatever people want, I guess.

We could have a single bug report post, then list specific single posts inside it (for translations by me, Sabbamitta, etc.) and then split issues off if they look complicated.

Regardless, I think the main thing for me is that my corrections thread be kept separate from other things. I felt bad for the other translators that they’d have to sift through all that.

If this is the direction we’re heading in then we are going to need help for the mods for sure. Especially seeing as we can’t even find the existing threads.

I second having shorter, less sparkly names for any threads.
“English translation correction thread” might be as granular as we should go.

Put them in a category, but please don’t change the titles. It’s a method I established for a reason. People are often reluctant to make corrections because they feel it’ll be unwelcome or unpleasant. I made the whole thing as light as possible, and it’s worked out really well. People feel like they’re talking to a person, not submitting feedback on a form.
