Spreading of dhamma and language as a tool

Can anyone provide me the exact URL of the in this sutta Buddha specifies what language his dhamma to be shared?

I know Buddha rejected sankrit, and he wanted to spread dhamma in the local/common language of the common people.

Today i see many core Buddhist always say read Pali to understand . I can understnad the core dhamma those days was first selected Pali and till today its spread and also its been translatted to many languages.

I still some Buddhist still say you have to read Pali to know dhamma.

I personally feel its again locking the dhamma to Pali. If I can get a book which have my native language, a book that is translated to my language is enough to know dhamma (unless that translation do not have authors personal interpretation than a direct translation of Pali )

Say my language is English, and SuttaCentral is having as is translation of all three baskets. As i do not know Páli I do not have to waste time to learn Pali to understand dhamma right ?

You might want to search “sakāya nirutti” in the web which will refer to root texts and forum posts.

If one can learn the original languages(Pāli and Sanskrit etc.) that would be the best IMO as it eliminates one source of noise by the translator. In SuttaCentral you can compare and study Pāli and English versions which is an advantage.

See this discussion here (including links to other posts). It’s apparently not exactly that the Buddha said we should learn the Dhamma “in our own language”, but it has often been interpreted in that way.
