Ajahn Brahmali has kindly given permission to use his comprehensive Vinaya materials in the creation and content of important parts of the Safe Buddhism website.
Students of Vinaya, especially on this website, would be aware that the heaviest penalties are for conduct in opposition to Monastic life, such as Sexual intercourse or Murder. This requires expulsion from the Sangha with no possibility of readmittance.
The Safe Buddhism site will have the intent to encourage followers of any Tradition to confirm very carefully the adherence to the Vows by their Monastic teacher and fellow Monastics. And for their teacher and community to freely declare whether they are practising the Patimokkha , referred to in Mahayana Buddhism as Pratimoksha vows - taken from Dalai Lama’s web page.
If the Monastic teacher cannot give a detailed explanation on their standard of compliance to all aspects of their Vinaya then this very red flag should not be dismissed - by the enquirer - under any circumstances. If sensual pleasures are not renounced (far more subtle than any sexual pleasure) then the Dharma does not apply to that person or Monastic.
