SuttaCentral: bug reports

The “deep # links” into subsections of Ajahn Brahmali’s notes don’t scroll the page. For example if you paste this into your address bar it won’t scroll down to that section: https://suttacentral.net/edition/pli-tv-vi/en/brahmali/general-introduction#textual-transmission-and-the-schools

And to clarify, just clicking the TOC links at the top of the page doesn’t work either

Not sure if this is a bug, but there is a change of behaviour for site navigation buttons at the bottom of the page.

Previously, it displayed the Pali name of the sutta in the next and previous buttons if the system cannot find the translated names in the database.

Now, the system simply displays the number.

Links to a single sutta from a chapter doesn’t work anymore unless you add e.g. «/en/sujato» or «/de/sabbamitta» behind the sutta numbering. This has made some of the pali parallels links on Dharma Pearls broken. Does @cdpatton have to update all the broken links in the Tables of Contents and the sutra notes, or is this just temporary?

Examples:
EA 2.1’s pali parallel in the EA ToC, SuttaCentral

EA 17.2 pali parallels in the sutra notes, https://suttacentral.net/an2.52 and SuttaCentral

@HongDa can you check on this? I can’t remember what term we use for these suttas, but it appears that it is no longer possible to link to individual parts of a series. For example https://suttacentral.net/dhp123 gives a 404 not found error.

Bhante, I’m checking

dhp123 is not a separate sutta, it belongs to dhp116-128, but I remember that this situation was handled before so that similar suttas can be viewed separately.

Thanks @Beaver

Bhante, I have fixed this bug.

It was triggered by a recent correction.

Thanks @WayChuang

I have adjusted the priority of the sutta title.

Thanks @HongDa

I noticed something now with the individual suttas from a chapter. If you open that sutta from «translations in other modern languages», e.g. Sabbamittas’s aligned translation, it sends you to the chapter instead of the individual sutta even though the translation is aligned.

Edit: And if you’re on Sujato’s translation of Dhp 123 and change to Suddhāso’s translation it sends you to Suddhāso’s translation of Dhp 116-128 instead of just Dhp 123.

Is it possible to add this to a test so we get an immediate alert the next time it happens?

I think it has always been this way. I can’t speak for the real devs, but the whole issue with grouped “suttas” like this is extremely complicated. Like, I think everyone should have to design a sutta website once in their life just so they can see how complicated it can be to even define what “one sutta” is.

All that to say, I doubt if the current behaviour will be changed (that’s up to Bhante Sujato). However, it would be great if you could created a detailed issue on github so it doesn’t get forgotten. Even if it doesn’t get implimented, there will still be a record of the situation.

Yes, we can test the affected APIs.
