The square ruins—a new story by bhante sujato

I wrote this story in one flow, starting on the back of a barf bag on a flight from Perth to Sydney, using a pen gifted by a flight attendant. When I’d written on both sides, a kind man gave me a notebook so I could keep writing.

It’s a homage to the Buddha and to Jorge Luis Borges. I had in mind to do this for many years, but never knew how. Then the first sentence came to me, and I could not stop.

There was, once, a deepness to the night: shadow of leaf beneath shadow of tree, where the stars lost their way in the jasmine.
