I was reading up on Bi Pc 50, offenses on teaching worldly subjects, and I couldn’t find a parallel for Bhikkhus - are there any that I’m missing somewhere?
And on that topic, because I know that Bhikkhunis have more rules than Bhikkhus, if there’s a specific rule like this (which really has nothing to do with genders), are bhikkhus supposed to follow these rules as well or not?
Interestingly, one of the criterion for release from dependency from a teacher is memorizing both Patimokkhas. AFAIK the reasons for this are not given, but someone keen to know the Buddha’s wisdom would be interested in all the rules.
If a monk is to give ovāda to bhikkhunis, he needs to know both pātimokkhas. Since senior monks should be able to do that, they’ll need to learn it at some point.
Some of the Chinese vinayas also say that bhikkhus need to keep the bhikkhuni rules. If they break them, it’s a dukkata offense for them.
