Vedena Samy in Nanavira book

I’m reading “notes on Dhamma” by Ven Nanavira and he continuously uses the word Samy for example vedena Samy. Always capitalized and with a period under the m. I’m assuming it’s Pali and I’m assumings the. good scholarly sutta central folks could explain it to an idiot such as my self

Hi Joel, I think he refers to the Samyutta, as in the Samyutta Nikaya (SN).

That sounds about right but have you ever heard to it referred like that? I’m listening to an AI audible version I loaded the ebook to, so that’s probably why it sounds odd. The Notes on Dhamma book is complicated enough as it is let alone using AI. Lol

In 2025 with the internet and Bhante Bodhi’s Wisdom editions, we have all gotten used to a set of standardized abbreviations/citations. When the author of this book was writing, that wasn’t the case. I think the PTS abbreviation is S. It makes sense that the author might use his own abbreviations.

Read aloud it would indeed sound odd. But I’m sure that is what is meant.
