Vesak is coming up on the 31st. I am part of a Dhammayut Sangha and would like to know the traditional offerings to make for this day. I understand a towel of some sort is offered, is there a specific type or place I can obtain this? Any other offerings? If I remember correctly, this is the time to offer toiletries and such as well. Thanks!
Of course people can always give things at Vesak, but that’s not really the focus (as it is with Kathina). Also, every monastery I have ever lived at had an over abundance of towels, soap, and toothbrushes.
If you want to offer things that will be used, it’s always best to simply ask them what they need. If you want to give them a clue as to the level of giving you want to do (e.g. toothpaste vs. a new car) you can always throw out some ideas and that will let them know how to answer.
