Vinaya footnote hyperlink broken and abbreviation suggestion

While reading DN21, I noticed that Bu Pj 1:10.6.1 is referenced in a footnote at DN21:1.11.6, but it wasn’t a hyperlink because I was viewing it on “tooltip on asterisk” mode. If you noticed this wanting to look at the referenced passage and tried to look for it by entering the url “suttacentral.net/pli-tv-bu-pj” and didn’t realise why it wasn’t a hyperlink like I did, you wouldn’t find anything because the website has it under “pli-tv-bu-vb-pj”, more in line with its actual position in the Vinaya, instead ofm “pli-tv-bu-pj”.

I’m not sure if this is the case for other references in the Vinaya, but in this case (and others if it applies) I think it might be a good idea to make one of these the standard rather than having a different one for the url (Bu Vb Pj,) and for the recognised abbreviation (Bu Pj). I think the confusion of having to remember to include letters in between the standard abbreviation, and for which references, when inputting a url might be worth making it slightly more confusing by making the reference longer (Bu Pj → Bu Vb PJ). That, or making them redirect to the correct url where they differ.

Judging from this thread, the lack of a hyperlink in the footnote is probably a typo and not an error so I’ll put that in the typo thread (never mind, it’s just because it’s set to tooltip on asterisk rather than sidenote)

I believe you have touched on something Bhante @Sujato has brought up before.

If I recall correctly, in retrospect the ids/urls probably should have been done differently. The Vinaya structure (across traditions and languages) is more complicated that the sutta and Abhidhamma side.

Unfortunately (unless I’m mistaken) this probably won’t be a high priority to fix, just because there are other more broken things, lol.

Not sure if this got fixed or if I just can’t reproduce it, but the hyperlink in the tooltip works for me (that’s how I normally view them):

This issue has been fixed. Basically, when we first added this feature I made a fairly hacky implementation that precluded the use of links in the popup. It was always meant to be replaced, and we have since done so, so the links now work.
