Wanted: Non-sectarian editor/proofreader for book on early Buddhism

Hello all

I am working on a manuscript involving a specific topic in early Buddhism. I need a proofreader/editor with the following qualifications:

  1. Willingness to work for bubkes (extremely important)

  2. Open-minded and non-sectarian in outlook

  3. Familiar with Pāli, but not necessarily expert

  4. Editorial experience, writing skills, knows when to break the first precept in regard to murdering darlings and be good at arguing me into doing so.

Work won’t start until the ms is at least mostly finished, or until there are portions in good shape. Probably not until late Spring if we are lucky.

Use the Message function to send inquiries of interest.

Thanks to all!

k.

Perhaps, @kozureokami you could share an excerpt of your text. Folks might be interested to see what you are working on.

Hi Snowbird—I hope you are well.
Actually, bubkes doesn’t really mean nothing, it just means very little compared to how much their ought to be. In this case, it would be working for very poor wages.
In terms of writers killing all their darlings, the famous quotedoesn’t necessarily refer to any particular word or words, it usually refers to passages (or even entire pages) that are written very well, that appeal to the writer, they’re very expressive, but they just don’t work for the project itself. They’re overwritten, they might be nice somewhere else, but they are wrong nonetheless.
As far as sharing text before the work is complete, I just don’t do that… it’s a very very bad idea, at least for this writer.!
Take care,
k.
