Was Buddhism ever a "system"?

"I consider one of the great strengths of Buddhism (in the early texts and evolved further in later Buddhist traditions) is its adaptability on devas ‘divine/spiritual beings’. Many of the deva elements in the texts are deeply shaped by the time and culture in which they emerged, reflecting the religious and cosmological landscape of ancient India and beyond.

But, the core teachings, such as the Four Noble Truths and Conditioned Arising, remain relevant across vastly different cultures and eras. This is because they are universal, pointing to fundamental aspects of human experience and suffering that transcend any one worldview."
