The following is from “Buddhist India” by T.W. Rhys Davids and represents his best guess as to the order of Buddhists documents were composed.
The Parayana and the Octades(the Eights) appear earlier than the four main Nikayas in the list above. I have seen this position held by many authors. Granted, they may simply have defered to T.W. Rhys Davids , but I have not seen anyone dispute this position other than by people I have encountered here.
My question is, can anyone point me to scholars who hold a different position and where they make their cases?
I already know that Bhante @sujato takes a different position, but I would like to know who else does and where. I am not looking to debate this here. I am just looking for sources that take a contrary position.
